Mariele is 2 months old today!

She did it again!

Thanks for the helpful responses. I did read a Dr. Sears article about this also. I had her in the swing while I was making up our bed with our comforter that was delivered from the cleaners today (see post from Monday). She did the "volcano" spit-up. Of course she is not really sitting upright in that pappasan swing either. I probably should not have put her there right after eating. I was thinking of the term "happy spitter" because she was still grinning up at her mobile after this, and she was not at all unhappy or fussy. Not sure why she had two of these extra big vomit episodes in one day. Maybe she does have a stomach bug like Joanna suggested. But she does not have any fever or other signs of illness. Whenever she spits up, it is usually in the daytime when she is wide awake. When she wakes during the night to nurse, I have no problems laying her right back down in the co-sleeper afterwards. And she does not spit up during the night. There have been some times, usually during her evening fussy times, that she fusses at the breast. I do wonder about the slow or delayed gastric emptying. Sometimes it is awhile after a feeding when she spits up, and she spits up curds at that point. Also she gets the hiccups frequently after spitting up. I know that is from diaphragmatic irritation and is probably related to whatever is causing the spitting up (the GER or GERD). And she has been gaining well and having plenty of wet diapers (and plenty of poo also). But if she continues to spit up EVERYTHING like she has done today I would think it would affect her gaining. She goes to the ped on March 31st, so I will discuss it then, unless she really gets worse or continues to vomit such large volumes. Dr. Sears suggests showing a video to the ped. Lee also thought this would be a good idea. Not sure quite how I'm gonna capture the moment, but we will try. But on the other hand, surely my ped can just believe my testimony. I'm really not exaggerating here LOL!

HELP!

Mariele has always spit up slightly more than the average baby. I say this after having Analese, who I can probably count on my hands the number of times she ever spit up. After having Analese I thought, "What is up with these burp rags? Does anyone actually NEED these?" But Mariele is a whole different story. Our ped has already diagnosed her with GERD/Reflux, but we are not doing any meds yet. My instructions have just been to keep her upright after feedings. Well, this morning she was sitting in the kitchen in her bouncy chair watching me and Analese get some breakfast when she suddenly projectile vomited the entire contents of her stomach. This was not a normal spit up, it was a geyser. Then she had her daily morning poo blow-out. So the kid cleared her entire digestive tract in the space of a couple of minutes. She was then a little fussy, probably because I removed all her clothing right then and there. I also had spit-up and poo all over me, so we took a bath together. She LOVES a bath. It really does make her happy to feel the warm water on her belly. I now have her dressed in a clean pair of jammies and I have her swaddled. She nursed a little and is now sleeping in my arms. I know some of you have had GERD/Reflux diagnoses for your little ones. Any advice that you can give me? Anyone experience very large projectile vomits from their little ones?

Thoughts on baby-wearing . . .

I really do love the New Native. I love that it fits right down inside my purse and I love that I can cradle my baby in there while she is sleeping. But I still also love the Baby Bjorn. The Bjorn is best for lots of walking and for wearing her when she is awake and alert. She loved facing out at the park yesterday!

Recipe for disaster

Toddler who is bare-butt under her nightgown because hubby forgot to put a pull-up on her after her bath last night. Hubby did decide that she needed to drink some water before going to sleep in OUR bed last night. Imagine the natural consequences of this scenario, and that is what I am dealing with this morning.
