Start to the week....

I started the week feeling pretty relaxed. My house is very clean. The laundry is under control. Analese's school lessons are under control. Groceries are stocked. Meal plans are done. So I decided to plop the kids in the car this morning and take off to the mall just to look around. Right after I strapped both kids into their car seats, the power went out. This was BEFORE I opened the garage door. So I was trying to figure out how I was going to get the RAV 4 out of the garage. I texted Lee and he texted back that I was to pull some red handle to manually open the garage. I found the red handle, but I could dangle my 110 pound body from this red handle and not move the door at all. Lee then texted back that I should pull on the handle once and then lift the door (not the handle). So I laughed very hard at myself and thanked my husband via text. Then he texted back that everyone at his work was laughing at me right now. That is how my week started!

But we DID make it to the mall and bought Analese a princess costume from the Disney Store and bought Lee a couple of swimsuits that were on sale at Dillards. Lee's swimsuit had split down the side and it was no longer decent to wear. Yep, he was showing WAY too much leg!

Back to School....

Well, we never really stopped through the summer. But since coming back from vacation, it kind of feels like an official start to a school year for us.

We have this large carpeted area at the top of our stairs. Can't really call it a hallway, because it is all open. Not quite big enough to call a game room, but it is a little bigger than a loft. Before, this area did not really have a defined purpose. But since Mariele is trying to crawl, I decided to move Analese's desk up here from the den (that has hardwood floors and no rug yet). It worked so well yesterday, that I decided to move all of her school stuff up here and convert the whole area to a school area. These built in cabinets and shelves work really well for storing her school supplies. And the corner where I put her desk just seems like the perfect space for it. With all of the bedroom doors closed, Mariele has a lot of open carpeted floor space to try to crawl on. And when she does actually start crawling, we will install the baby gate there at the top of the stairs. This arrangement works so well because Mariele can happily play with her toys while I am working with Analese on her lessons.

Analese got creative with construction paper, scissors and glue this morning.

This summer Analese learned all of her letters and the associated phonics. Next up is lowercase letters. She will draw a big capital A and call it uppercase and a tiny capital A and call it lowercase. She has been doing great with letter recognition and has just recently started to write her letters. She has also started drawing actual pictures. She loves to draw "happy spiders" and balloons.

A few days ago as I was cleaning the kitchen, Analese was drawing on her manga-doodle type thing and she told me, "Mommy look, I drawed my name!" And this is what she showed me:

I was actually impressed that she did this! Looks like she wrote ANALE then ran out of room and moved to the left side and wrote S and a backwards E. But the point is, she did this totally on her own! I think I have lots of challenges awaiting me in homeschooling.

Wordless Wednesday - What a night....

We are home and Mariele is 8 months old!

We made it home from our vacation today on Mariele's 8 month birthday. As is tradition, I did get some photos of Mariele today.

Let's see...At 8 months Mariele is on the brink of crawling mobility. She is otherwise mobile - spinning in circles and scooting backwards. She says Mama all the time now and throws in an occasional Dada. Today after I said the word "walk" in conversation with Lee and Analese talking about taking a walk, Mariele repeated the word plain as day! Mariele's favorite thing to do is to watch Analese. Analese literally cracks her up! We have had a slow start to solids. She is just now starting to really enjoy some rice cereal at dinner time. She still does not care for baby food purees. She loves to trill. She makes this really cute and unique trill with her voice. It is a happy sound and it corresponds with her little happy bursts!

Check out the butt of her ladybug outfit, as well as her little baby thunder thighs!

Beach fun photos from today!

Beach fun is the theme for this week. Not a bad theme. I think I want to continue this theme perpetually.

We took another group photo today since the group morphed. Joining us were David, Annette and Andy.

Analese and Mariele were wearing their matching yellow princess dresses that Aunt Amy sent. So we tried to get some photos of them on the beach. And I even got in the picture for a couple of them, since I was also wearing a yellow dress over my bikini:

And here is the really loud helicopter that flew over the beach earlier. Friendly guys on there!

And More Beach Fun!

Here is a pic of the house we are staying in from the beach. It is a duplex and we are staying in the right (east) side of it.

Glorious sunset on the beach!

Yesterday David and Annette and my brother Andy arrived. Here are some pics of Analese having lots of fun out in the water with Uncle David and Aunt Netty:

Group photos:

So nice to see our friends. Have not seen them in three years, so it was great to meet them for this vacation. Keith and Lee have been friends for 26 years.

Analese had such a great time with Allyson. Unfortunately they have to drive back to Kentucky tomorrow, but we so enjoyed having them here and visiting with them.

Mariele really loves the ocean. She squeals and kicks her legs every time we go out to the beach!

Loving life and kicking back on vacation this week!
